Mosasaurids were quite similar in general form; but there was a high amount of diversity among the different kinds; from the slim Clidastes or Gavialimimus to the Robust Prognathodon. Plioplatecarpus was build for a moderately pelagic lifestyle, and had a short skull and large teeth and eyes. It may have been a deep diver compared to other kinds of mosasaurs. Plioplatecarpus was one of the last genera of mosasaurs living near the end of the cretaceous period in the western interior seaway.
